A number of budding engineers in Staffordshire will be given an opportunity to carve out a career in the industry thanks to the work of one company. Broxap, which designs and manufactures street furniture, is looking to take on three apprentices who will undergo training and gain practical experience of working in this trade. The Sentinel has told how the Chesterton-based firm is offering a design and draughting course to the trio of successful candidates. It hopes that this will play a part in creating the next generation of engineers for the region, many of whom could go on to enjoy long and successful working lives in the business. Tom Elliott, technical director at Broxap, said: "We were initially informed about this new training programme and recognised the enormous benefits that it would offer to our business. We took the view that by investing in our future generation, we could produce the next string of specialist designer engineers to complement our existing team. "The only viable route to achieve this was through an apprenticeship programme - particularly one that's been designed and tailored specifically for our industry." All of the apprentices that are taken on by Broxap will be given the chance to work towards qualifications in engineering design. A partnership with the TDS Academy has been set up and this will ensure all the courses offered to the youngsters are relevant. Each of the young engineers will also be allowed to work with the latest 2D and 3D computer software in order to get up to speed with the work the company carries out. This includes the creation of important street furniture, such as seating and canopies. Broxap has been in existence since 1946, underlining its credentials in its sector and the esteem in which it is held. Being able to take on an engineering apprenticeship at the firm and using the skills and qualifications gained to secure engineering jobs could be a dream for plenty of youngsters in Staffordshire and beyond.
