This new role is required to maintain and manage the overall Future Borders Programme plan and support and help manage subordinate Workstream and Project Plans.

1. Work with the Programme Director and Programme Manager to set the overall shape of the long term Programme Plan

2. Work alongside the Design and Initiatives Workstreams to start to build up longer term plans for projects / initiatives

3. Maintain and manage close working relationships with Workstream Leads, Product Owners and Project Managers; lead the translation of design roadmaps into project delivery plans

4. Establish then manage the regular planning update and reporting process

5. Identify and manage risks, issues and dependencies across Workstreams and

projects; escalating these as required to the Programme Manager and Programme Director

6. Identify dependencies between the component plans within the overall programme portfolio and ensure processes in place for managing the dependencies

The Future Border Programme sits within the Border Delivery Group (BDG) which has a cross government remit to support the departments and agencies across government in achieving the changes necessary to support a viable and effective solution to the challenges presented by the Exit from the EU (Day One), and during the transition stage that follows.

The Programme has been set up as a discrete programme within the BDG both to allow for it to take a more forward looking approach, beyond Day One, and to act across all key areas of policy objective rather than focussing on a single departmental perspective. The overarching objectives for the Programme are as follows:

 Support the key mission elements of increased security, improvement of trade and protection of revenue

 Identify and develop reusable solutions to current and potential future issues affecting multiple actors at the border

 Determine effective new ways to use data and technology to support more efficient border management and resolve specified and agreed problems

 Identify potential gaps between day one service and world class borders and mitigate the delay in their implementation

 Create an effective & efficient UK border;

Key Knowledge and Skills (Experience):

- Experience leading programme and project planning work; experience of doing so at the early stages of a Programme is desirable

- Experience and expertise in managing large scale, complex, planning – together with assurance and reporting against plans

- Confidence leading and driving planning conversations with project teams and partner Departments

- Ability to quickly build up plan on page views of future projects – to understand the concept and overarching shape of change – but also the more detailed plans that project teams will use to manage delivery

- Confidence to manage senior and diverse stakeholders in, other government departments, ALBs and public bodies whilst representing the aims and objectives of Future Borders Programme

- Collaborative style and values: integrity, non-silo working, building great relationships

- Judgement and skill for working in a politically sensitive environment

- Personal resilience given the high profile and challenging role/expectations
